IMAGES OF SPAIN - THE MOVIE! IMAGES OF SPAIN - Taken during our January 2001 visit to Calpe and the Costa Blanca. Can you believe it's January!
The Costa Blanca, the 'White Coast', begins immediately south of Valencia. Long sandy beaches stretch as far as Torrevieja, 200 kilometres down the east coast. The Costa Blanca has a wealth of hillwalking, scrambling and rock climbing. The summer months are a bit hot for these activities to be accomplished comfortably, but during the autumn, winter and spring months, the average midday temperatures are perfect with a climate that historically offers sunshine for 300 days of the year.
The White Coast becomes a very pleasant area where the British climate can be left behind for a climbing holiday in the sun. Alicante is very easily reached from most major UK airports

These pic. tures were taken in January 2001 with ave temperatures around 15 degrees centigrade higher than the UK. Transport is there to meet you for the transfer to an apartment in Calpe. Set in a beautiful coastal and mountainous area, with its own micro-climate, sea and mountains in a permanent embrace. Calpe is just 3/4 hour drive north of Alicante, along the motorway.

The first two days are spent on local crags, Toix East and Toix West. These are on the outskirts of Calpe itself, with the magnificent headland of 'Penon de Ifach' as a constant backdrop. The headland rises sheer for 1000ft out of the blue sea that laps at its massive base. As the week progresses, climbs are made at Sella, where there are hundreds of first rate climbs and spectacular scenery.

Finally, climbing on the Paig Campana where 1000ft climbs abound. All of this and more within a twenty mile radius of Calpe! During the 7-day holiday we aim to climb on the same day as arrival from the UK. Little time is lost in travelling. When not climbing we spend time in visiting local attractions or relaxing on the wonderful beaches of finest sand.
